SOUTHERN PINE LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY, INC.

Southern Pine Locomotive Co. (SPLCo) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Rusk, Texas. Our mission is “To foster educational, entertaining, and inspiring encounters with the history of local railroads and industry.”
Our keystone project, Temple Lumber Company No. 20 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, PA in January 1930. It spent its entire career working in the woods of East Texas. No. 20 is a 2-8-2 Mikado-type locomotive weighing 96 tons with a tractive effort of 34,000 pounds.

Our organization’s founders are guided by years of hands-on experience in the railroad industry. We know the nuts & bolts of steam locomotive restoration, maintenance, and operation, and we’re ready to pass our knowledge on to our community and the next generation.

SPLCo is a volunteer driven, grass-roots organization. We encourage members of the community to join us in appreciating our railroad history, contributing to its preservation, and presenting its educational value to the general public. Thank you for your interest!
